2024 Annual Citizens Police Academy Recap

Week 10 and that’s a wrap! Last night concluded our third annual citizens academy with a graduation ceremony. Family and loved ones of the graduates were also invited to attend, tour the police station, and see a demonstration from Ofc. Leandres and K9 Jocko.

We were so very fortunate to spend the past several weeks with such an incredible, engaging group of people. Thanks so much for taking the time out of your busy schedules to spend with us and learn a bit of what your HPD has to offer. Community engagement is so important to us, and we truly enjoyed sharing our time with all of you.

Each week offered something different for the attendees. They got to see some of the inner workings of our dispatch center and our records department, our detention facility and the process of booking an arrestee. They heard from our mental health clinician and all of the very important work that she does for the department and the community.

The attendees got to experience some of the more technical aspects of what we do as seen in our detective bureau and our special response teams and drone unit.

They saw how we strive to stay engaged in the community, part of which is through our Community Action Team and our social media formats, some of the most important work we do. They learned how we will continue to work hard to keep professionalizing what we do through accreditation and policy revision.

And we are so much more. We care deeply about our community and we will continue to work hard to make all of you proud of your police department. If you want to learn more about your HPD, we hope to see you at our next academy. Stay tuned for details!
