The Street Crimes Unit (SCU) was formed in 2022 as a plain-clothes, proactive policing unit. The mission of SCU is to combat crime through proactive and intelligence-based policing. SCU Officers primarily focus on high-level offenders who are responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime. The unit accomplishes these goals by targeting the following areas:
- Supplementing the patrol and detective divisions to help identify and arrest wanted subjects
- Surveillance missions of suspects who are involved in serial criminal activity.
- Street-level drug enforcement.
- Quality of life issues.

The Street Crimes Unit (SCU) typically operates unmarked police cruisers with officers in plain clothes. These officers are deployed during various hours to impact the quality of life and nuisance issues, violent crimes, areas of concern, or other problems as directed by the division commanders or the Chief of Police. The unit is staffed by highly motivated and specially trained officers working in addition to their regular shift assignments. The SCU may also work in conjunction with the Detective Division to provide an additional team of officers to conduct time-sensitive follow-ups to crimes.
The SCU actively solicits tips from other officers and members of the public regarding suspected criminal activity of an ongoing, chronic nature. Members of the public may leave a message on the tip line by calling the SC commander, Capt. Chad Perry at perryce@townofhudson.org or (978) 562-7122 ext. 226.
